Whiplash is an injury to the neck when extreme movements are forced upon it in any direction. It could be as a result of a motor vehicle accident, or during many other activities which involve external force being applied to the body. Symptoms of pain and stiffness and occasionally referred neural symptoms are not uncommon.
Our experienced teams of physios know that early intervention, in terms of treatment, gives the best results.
If you have suffered a whiplash injury, you don’t need to wait for a referral from your insurer’s. You can actually self-refer yourself to us, and if you can do that ASAP we would recommend it. The sooner you get your whiplash injury treated, often the quicker it responds and the faster it is to heal. So early intervention is key. We will give you a receipt for your treatment so you can submit your bill to the insurance company and claim a refund on your expenses, of which physiotherapy is one of them and perfectly allowed.
Here are some exercises you can try as well:
Exercise 1 – Neck Rotations
Rotate your neck slowly to the left by looking over your left shoulder. Take your neck to a comfortable end of range. Repeat to the right. Make sure you keep your shoulder and back relaxed. This is an excellent exercise to improve rotation and mobility in your neck. Repeat 10 times each side and perform three times per day.
Exercise 2 - Neck Side Flexion Stretch
Ensuring your nose is pointing forwards, bend your neck as if you were taking your left ear towards your left shoulder. Hold the stretch for 30 seconds, and then repeat to the right. You can do this three times per day. This exercise will help improve mobility to your neck.
