Case Study

About me

I’m George, I’m 29 years old and I work in the marketing industry. I’m relatively active and play football once a week, as well as going to the gym three to four times a week.

The problem before treatment

I suffered an ACL and meniscus injury to my right knee while playing five-a-side football. Having already ruptured my ACL in my left knee five years previously, I immediately recognised that this was a similar injury.

This meant I was unable to play sport and experienced day-to-day pain, particularly when kneeling or bending down.

What made me seek help

Following surgery, my main goal was always to return to playing sport again, especially football, and I knew this would require a structured and rigorous rehabilitation programme.

I scheduled my surgery for three months later, which allowed me to complete prehabilitation with Harry, focusing on mobility and strength before the operation.

Although I was familiar with the rehabilitation process from my previous surgery, this experience was far more detailed and personalised than what I had experienced before.

My treatment and rehabilitation journey

Harry got me into the clinic just five days after surgery and immediately set me up with a programme of exercises aimed at restoring mobility and building strength, which is crucial in the early stages of recovery.

Completing these exercises three to five times per day helped me build confidence in the first few weeks and set me on the right path towards full recovery.

Harry encouraged me to film my exercises for review, particularly during the later stages when sport-specific drills were introduced. He was always happy to explain the purpose of each exercise and how it contributed to my recovery.

My rehabilitation continued without any major setbacks. Harry was excellent at pushing me when appropriate, while also ensuring I understood the recovery process and didn’t rush my return to sport.

In total, I had 20 sessions with Harry, including prehabilitation, over the course of a year.

The results and progress

I noticed clear progress between each session and, as mentioned, I didn’t experience any major setbacks during my recovery.

The overall rehabilitation process took just under a year, which was expected. However, I felt far more confident following this recovery compared to my first ACL surgery.

The rehabilitation also allowed me to maintain physical activity, which was important for me as someone who finds it difficult to stay inactive for long periods.

Where I am now

After gradually easing back into sport, I am now playing football once a week with no significant knee pain.

I am able to run and jump without any lingering issues and feel very confident in all physical activities.

My message to others

I would strongly recommend starting rehabilitation as early as possible following surgery. It made a huge difference within the first three months of recovery, which wasn’t something I fully committed to after my first operation.

Overall, this rehabilitation process was excellent. I always felt supported and well-informed throughout. The fact that my recovery took just under a year—compared to 15–16 months after my first surgery—is a testament to the quality of care I received from Harry.

Kind regards,

George
