Case Study: Cruciate Knee Ligament Injury

Background:
Hi all. I would like to share with you my journey up to my full knee replacement. This will cover the 2 years before the surgery. I had suffered an acute cruciate knee ligament injury from playing football over 30 years ago that had progressively got worse over the years.

Over the last 5/8 years, the pain in the knee was excruciating, keeping me awake all night and after any activity on the legs. I also suffered with a really bad limp that was affecting other joints in my back and hips.

I was awaiting the full knee operation when a friend recommended Tim and the team at Surrey Physio.

Treatment:
After an initial consultation, it was decided to drain the knee and have a GEL injection directly into the cavity of the knee. I am a 6ft, 17-stone bloke who is massively scared of needles, but I have to say I never felt a thing!

After about 24 hours, the relief was amazing, with almost instant pain-free knee joints (it was like Uncle Albert's market dance in Only Fools and Horses). I was aware of the stiffness in the knee, but it was 100% better than before, with people even noticing how much less I limped when walking or playing golf.

The GEL lasted about 6 months, which I thought was amazing, so I decided to have repeat treatments. The second treatment lasted a bit less, and as I was told by Tim, the knee is in such a bad state it will need a steroid shot in the joint.

The GEL was great, but the steroid was even better. Combined with a fluid drain, this injection also lasted about 6/7 months.

Outcome:
I have now had the full knee replacement, but the GEL and steroid shots kept me going for over 3 years while waiting for surgery. I cannot express how happy I was with the treatment and the relatively small cost, which enabled me to lead a somewhat pain-free daily life.

Reflection:
I would recommend Surrey Physio to anyone who asks me, bearing in mind that all joint pain is different. I'm sure SP will have the answer to help you along the road to recovery.

Kind Regards
