Case Study

About me

I am 38 years old and diabetic. I had recently undergone surgery, which meant I had stopped going to the gym for a long period of time.

The problem before treatment

I developed a frozen shoulder, experiencing significant stiffness and pain in my shoulder joint. This severely limited my range of motion and began to affect everyday activities.

Over time, the condition worsened and reached a point where sleep became difficult. I was unable to carry out certain tasks around the house, particularly those involving reaching overhead.

After around six months, daily activities such as dressing and reaching for items on high shelves became very challenging.

What made me seek help

The pain and stiffness had progressed to the point where I could no longer manage daily tasks comfortably or sleep properly, and I realised I needed professional help rather than continuing to struggle through it.

My treatment and rehabilitation journey

I initially received a steroid injection, which helped reduce symptoms. This was followed by physiotherapy appointments every two weeks and a structured treatment plan focused on stretching exercises.

The stretching programme targeted the shoulder joint and surrounding muscles, gradually improving my range of motion and reducing stiffness.

The exercises included pendulum stretches, cross-body stretches, and external rotation stretches. My favourite exercises were gym-based weight exercises, particularly one called “drawing the sword,” which I found easy to perform when out and about to help ease the pain.

Having regular appointments meant my progress could be supervised, and alongside stretching, strength work, and electrical stimulation, my condition steadily improved.

The results and progress

My progress was very positive. As my strength and range of motion improved, I was able to sleep better and gradually return to activities I had previously avoided.

Where I am now

My left shoulder has improved significantly, and I have since returned for treatment to help address similar symptoms developing in my right shoulder.

My message to others

The treatment and support I received were extremely helpful, and I no longer felt like I had to simply suffer and push through the pain. I was supported throughout, and my symptoms improved.

I would strongly recommend seeking help if you need it, as the team are excellent at what they do.

Kind regards,
