Case Study: Lower Back Pain Rehabilitation
I’m 66 years old and generally quite active for my age. I’m retired now, but I like to keep busy with daily walks, light gardening and spending time with family. I’ve never been one for sitting still too long, and I’ve always tried to look after myself, even if I’m not as flexible as I once was.
The problem before treatment: I had been suffering from lower back pain for quite some time before I finally did something about it. At first, it was more of a niggle that came and went, but over the months it gradually became more constant and more painful. Simple things like getting out of bed, bending down, or standing for long periods became uncomfortable. It started to affect my sleep and I found myself avoiding activities I used to enjoy. Mentally, it was frustrating and worrying – I kept thinking, “Is this just part of getting older, or is it going to get worse?”
What made me seek help: The turning point came when the pain began to interfere with my day-to-day life. I was struggling to sleep properly and even short walks became difficult. I didn’t want to rely on painkillers or just accept the pain as normal, so I decided it was time to get proper help and understand what was really going on with my back.
Treatment: From the very first appointment, I felt reassured. Everything was explained clearly and in simple terms, which made a big difference. The treatment included hands-on work to ease the stiffness in my lower back, along with a tailored exercise plan to improve my movement and strength. I was also given practical advice about posture, daily habits and how to manage flare-ups. I attended regular sessions and gradually built the exercises into my routine at home.
Outcome: Over time, I noticed a real improvement. The pain reduced significantly and I started to move more freely again. Getting out of bed became easier, my sleep improved, and I felt more confident doing everyday activities. The progress was steady rather than instant, but that made it feel realistic and sustainable.
I’m now back to enjoying my walks and daily activities without constantly thinking about my back. I still keep up with the exercises I was given, as they help me stay mobile and prevent the pain from returning. I feel much more in control of my body and my health.
If you’re dealing with ongoing back pain, don’t just put up with it or assume it’s part of ageing. Getting the right help can make a huge difference.
Kind Regards
