Case Study: Lower Limb Pain After a Fall – Mrs Ehsan

About the Patient
My name is Mrs Ehsan, and I am 54 years old. I live a fairly active life and like to keep myself busy with day-to-day activities at home and in my community. Before my injury, I would move around without thinking twice, but after a fall down the stairs, everything changed quite suddenly. The fall caused significant tightness and discomfort in my lower limb muscles, and although I hoped the pain would ease with time, it continued to affect me more than I expected. My GP eventually referred me to Surrey Physio, which is where my recovery truly began.

The Problem Before Treatment
Before starting treatment, the problem affected almost every part of my daily routine. The muscle tightness made walking difficult and left me feeling stiff and restricted, even with simple movements. Tasks that I once did easily, such as climbing stairs, standing for longer periods or walking around the house, became surprisingly challenging. The discomfort also affected my confidence. I found myself avoiding certain movements or taking extra care, worried that things might get worse. It was frustrating not being able to move freely, and I felt quite limited in what I could comfortably do. After several weeks of noticing little improvement on my own, I realised that I needed professional help to recover properly.

Treatment Received
When I first attended Surrey Physio, the initial assessment confirmed what I had been feeling: there was evident muscle tension and a clear reduction in my range of movement. My physiotherapist explained everything in a reassuring and understandable way, which immediately put me at ease. Treatment included a combination of manual therapy to release tightness, targeted stretching, and a structured home exercise programme that I was encouraged to follow regularly. The exercises were tailored to my condition and gradually progressed as my mobility improved. I attended sessions consistently, and each appointment helped me understand my body better and feel more in control of my recovery. The advice I received about posture, movement habits and simple steps I could take at home was especially helpful and made me feel actively involved in the process.

Outcome
Over time, I began to notice real changes. The stiffness gradually reduced, and the discomfort that once made walking difficult became far more manageable. I started moving with greater ease, and activities that had seemed daunting after the injury began to feel possible again. My confidence returned as my mobility improved, and I found myself walking more freely and naturally. Even small improvements felt encouraging, and collectively they made a significant difference to my daily life. The progress felt steady and meaningful, and it reminded me how important consistent physiotherapy can be in recovering from an injury.

Now, I am able to walk with much more comfort and confidence. My mobility has improved enormously, and although I still continue with the exercises to maintain my strength and flexibility, I feel more like myself again. The treatment I received at Surrey Physio has been instrumental in helping me regain both physical comfort and peace of mind. To anyone experiencing similar pain or difficulties, I would wholeheartedly encourage seeking help. Effective treatment truly can make a world of difference.
