Case Study

About me

I am a 29-year-old professional working in the real estate development industry. I lead an active lifestyle and enjoy activities such as golf, rugby, running, weightlifting, and boxing.

The problem before treatment

At the time, I was training for a sprint triathlon when, within a short period, I began to experience pain in both my neck and my shins.

This initially limited the amount of training I could do, particularly running, and eventually meant I had to stop training altogether. As I had never competed in a triathlon before, this was very disappointing and I feared I wouldn’t be able to take part.

What made me seek help

I decided to seek treatment from a qualified physiotherapist and researched several providers. Surrey Physio stood out due to their case studies and the positive reviews I had read about the quality of their care.

My treatment and rehabilitation journey

Following my initial assessment, the physiotherapist identified the underlying issues and clearly explained them to me.

The treatment sessions included a combination of hands-on therapy such as massage and dry needling, alongside stretching and strengthening exercises. These treatments helped relieve pain in the short term.

I was also given a bespoke exercise programme to complete at home. The exercises were clearly explained and provided in PDF format, allowing me to fully understand and follow the plan.

While the hands-on treatment helped ease my symptoms initially, the exercises focused on strengthening the affected areas to support long-term recovery.

The results and progress

Over the course of seven weekly sessions, I noticed the pain becoming less and less prominent, allowing me to gradually return to training.

Ultimately, I was able to compete in the triathlon without being hindered by either my neck or shin pain, which was exactly what I had hoped for.

Within seven weeks, I was back to normal and no longer experienced any pain. I also gained a much better understanding of why the issues occurred and how to continue with functional exercises and stretches to minimise the risk of recurrence.

Where I am now

I have fully returned to my usual training routine and remain pain-free, continuing to stay active without limitations.

My message to others

The care and service I received were excellent. Everyone was friendly and accommodating, even fitting sessions around my schedule at short notice.

“I would definitely recommend Surrey Physio to anyone dealing with issues that impact their health, fitness, or ability to enjoy their hobbies. I’m really glad I sought treatment and haven’t experienced any recurrence since.”
