Case Study: Relief and Mobility Restored After Chronic Lower Back Pain
About Me:
I am in my early 40s and work full time in an office environment, which involves long periods of sitting. Outside of work, I enjoy walking and spending time with my family. I was recently diagnosed with Psoriatic Arthritis, which my healthcare team believes may have contributed to my back issues.
The Problem Before Treatment:
My lower back pain had been a chronic issue lasting for months, making everyday movement difficult and uncomfortable. The pain was particularly bad in the mornings, making it a struggle to get out of bed. This caused significant frustration and made me feel like the pain was restricting my normal life.
What Made Me Seek Help:
The turning point was when the pain became constant and severely impacted my mobility, especially at the start of the day. I realised I needed a long-term solution and a clear plan. I received a referral and decided to start treatment with Surrey Physio to address the root of the problem and learn how to actively manage it.
Treatment and Rehabilitation Journey:
I had several sessions with an excellent physiotherapist at Surrey Physio. The difference has been tremendous. Beyond hands-on treatment, the most crucial part was the education. The physio explained my condition clearly, including the potential contribution of my Psoriatic Arthritis, and demonstrated a tailored programme of exercises and stretches. They provided me with tools to manage my pain day-to-day, especially morning stretches that helped me get mobile more easily.
Results and Progress:
The results have been significant. Implementing the targeted programme has greatly improved my mobility and given me the ability to actively manage my back pain. My pain is significantly reduced, and I feel better equipped to handle flare-ups. The frustration has been replaced with confidence, and I now feel empowered to maintain a pain-free life.
Where I Am Now:
I am in a much better place. I feel confident and well-equipped to manage my back health and have returned to my normal activities, including regular walks. I consistently follow the maintenance exercises I was shown, which have been key to sustaining my progress and preventing the chronic pain from returning.
My Message to Others:
Don’t let chronic pain become your normal; finding the right help and committing to the rehabilitation plan can truly give you back control.
“This treatment didn't just provide relief, it gave me the long-term solution and confidence I needed to stay active and pain free.”
Best wishes
Justin
