Everest Summit – Day 14

Dingboche to Lobuche

We did not wake up too early, but I had a lovely hot gas powered shower at Bright Star Lodge. After, we said our goodbyes to Karma and Phubla Sherpa, the husband and wife owners of the lodge. They gave us some lemon ginger honey tea and a beautiful Khata – a white scarf to wish us good luck and safe journey.

We had a few photos and wished them good bye.

We left late, around 10:30am and headed for Lobuche. There is a short uphill section which gives nice views over Dingboche, followed by a relatively flat section to Thukla, where we stopped for lunch. After Thukla you head to the right and go up a steep hill to the memorial group, where the fallen mountaineers are honoured. We had a good look around there, and noticed a familiar name, Scott Fisher, on one of the memorials. There were many there, and it was a peaceful and moving place.

We pushed on to Lobuche, and went to Oxygen tea house. We had booked two rooms, but they decided not to honour that, and had left only one room for us. So we went to another tea house, full. The third one was called Mother Earth tea house, and we checked in there. They had two rooms, but as an added bonus, you could buy an electric blanket. The cost of the electric blanket was 4000 NPR (£20) and well worth it, not just for the blanket, but because you got a room with power. This is essential for charging devices without paying extra for the charging facilities in the communal room.
