Everest Summit – Day 15

Lobuche to Lobuche High Camp

We left the tea house around 10am, and packed just summit kit into one bag. This made it much easier for our three porters, who only had one bag to carry up.

Going from Lobuche to the High Camp is very hard work. You go up the side of a mountain, and it really is a tough climb up. In some places there are ropes to hold on to, and it’s quite steep towards the top. It took around 3 hours to get to Lobuche High Camp, and I remember it well from 18 months ago, although it definitely seemed much bigger than before. There were far more tents than what I recall.

When I arrived, I met 8 other members of the Summit Climb team, and spoke to them. I had lunch in the tent next to them, as their tent was full. We had some food – Dal Bhat – rice with soup. After lunch, I went to my tent, a nice standing tent, with a thin mattress. I went in, lay down, and had a couple of hours sleep. Felt good, and sleeping felt good after the tough climb up. I woke up around 5pm and dinner was being prepared.

I went to the tent where the summit climb team were, and sat down and chatted to them. There was a lot of testosterone. Most of them were Americans and Russians or Russsian speaking Europeans. Food was Dal Bhat (rice and soup) and I also got an omelette too. After dinner, we had a briefing from Sabin Sherpa, and that was useful. After the briefing, I took myself to bed, at around 8pm.

It was annoying that at 9pm, the two people from Summit climb were still talking in Russian and I politely asked them if they be quiet. One of then said something like “maybe put some headphones on”. It was very inconsiderate, everyone was up at 1am so why not chat in the morning instead. One of them kept farting too. Gross. I got off to sleep around 9pm and managed to get 4 hours sleep.
