Everest Summit – Day 17

Lobuche to Everest Base Camp

My Withings smart watch said I slept 7 hours 20 mins, although it felt like longer. I had put a towel over my window to keep the sunlight out. I was woken up by lots of people shuffling around with bags at about 7am. I left at 10am with Dhanu and Gelbu. The trek went via Gorakshep where we stopped for lunch. We then trekked two more hours to EBC. The trek was hard. I felt tired. My legs did not have good energy.

We arrived at EBC and there was a lot of people trying to get the famous rock photo with Everest Base Camp 5364m, but my iphone compass app showed the altitude 100m lower.

We made our way through to Summit Climb tents and our dining area is quite small compared to the big providers. And a lot of the guys here have colds and coughs, which is a concern in a small dining area.

We had a very nice dinner, with spaghetti and meat, and apple pie for pudding. It was very nice and I went to the chef and personally thanked him. We then chatted in our communal dining area and went to bed. At midnight, I was woken up by someone in the tent next door listening to a podcast on double speed. I got out of my tent (freezing cold) and took my Leki pole, and tapped on his tent and asked politely to put some headphones on. Shortly after, the podcast went off. I guess it was one of the team who decided to have an afternoon sleep. Seriously, can you imagine why anyone would do that?
