NHS England to be Scrapped - we say thank you to the amazing team at NHS England who have been supporting us for the last 7 years.

In a significant shake-up of the UK’s healthcare system, Prime Minister Keir Starmer has announced plans to abolish NHS England. The move aims to reduce bureaucracy, improve efficiency, and redirect resources to frontline services.

NHS England have been supporting Surrey Physio for many years. In 2021, they audited our FCP and Link Worker service and passed through our financial model and our delivery model, saying we were “Gold Standard”.

The NHS England team have also supported us significantly through the NHS Clinical Entrepreneur Programme, since 2018, that’s seen significant growth across the Surrey Physio group as we have stepped in to support the NHS with workforce.

The government intends to integrate NHS England’s functions back into the Department of Health and Social Care, reversing the 2012 reforms that granted it operational independence. The transition is expected to be completed within the next two years, with substantial reductions in staffing levels planned. Reports indicate that the government will cut up to 50% of positions across NHS England and the Department of Health and Social Care as part of the reorganisation.

Starmer emphasised that the decision was necessary to ensure a more streamlined and effective healthcare system. “We have to take difficult decisions to prioritise patient care over bureaucracy,” he stated. “Our focus is to ensure that every pound spent benefits the NHS directly.”

Critics argue that centralising control of the NHS under the government could lead to increased political interference in healthcare decisions. However, we remain hopeful that the incredible NHS Clinical Entrepreneur Programme will remain in place under the DHSC.

The reforms mark a major shift in the way the NHS is managed, with many awaiting further details on how the restructuring will impact service delivery. Healthcare professionals, policymakers, and the public will be closely watching how this transition unfolds in the coming months.

In the meantime, we thank all the amazing NHS England staff.
