Tim Allardyce Announces Move to Non-Practising Osteopath Status, Continuing His Career in Physiotherapy

September 2026

Tim Allardyce, CD of Surrey Physio Group and an experienced osteopath of 24 years and chartered physiotherapist for 21 years, has announced his decision to step back from practising osteopathy while continuing his professional career as a physiotherapist.

Having spent many years working across both professions, Tim has developed a strong reputation in musculoskeletal healthcare, combining clinical expertise with business leadership, education and a commitment to improving patient care.

Tim says: “I have decided to move to non-practising status due to a recent consultation announced on an increase fee in registration, alongside increased insurance costs. As I have both insurance and chartered status through the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy, it makes sense to practice solely as a physiotherapist”.

Tim will remain on the General Osteopathic Council’s register, but as non-practising.

What does this mean for Patients?

On the surface, absolutely nothing will change with your treatment. Tim will still use gentle osteopathic techniques as well as physiotherapy rehabilitation, and electrotherapy. However, what will change is the way that patients use private medical insurance. All private medical cover will need to specify physiotherapy rather than osteopathy.

A Career Spanning Two Professions

Throughout his career, Tim has championed the complementary roles of osteopathy and physiotherapy in the assessment, treatment and rehabilitation of musculoskeletal conditions.

His dual qualifications have provided him with a broad understanding of manual therapy, rehabilitation, exercise prescription and patient-centred care.

Alongside his clinical work, Tim has built Surrey Physio Group into a multi-site healthcare organisation, supporting patients across London, Surrey and Hampshire..

Tim's professional achievements include serving as Course Lead Physiotherapist for the London Marathon, working at 8 Olympic Games, running a team of over 165 staff, being a proud NHS Clinical Entrepreneur, and author. Tim’s non-professional achievements include summiting Mount Everest earlier in 2026.

Continuing as a Physiotherapist

Tim commented:

"Having qualified and worked in both osteopathy and physiotherapy degrees, I've been fortunate to experience the strengths of two excellent healthcare professions. Osteopathy has played the most important role in my professional development, and I remain incredibly grateful for the knowledge, friendships and opportunities it has given me.

"However, as my responsibilities across Surrey Physio Group have grown, I've decided that the time is right to step back from practising osteopathy and concentrate on my work as a physiotherapist”.

Looking Ahead

Tim will continue to lead Surrey Physio Group, focusing on expanding access to high-quality physiotherapy services, supporting clinicians and developing innovative healthcare technology.

While his formal practising status within osteopathy is changing, Tim's appreciation for the profession remains unchanged.

He concludes:

"Ultimately, whether someone sees an osteopath or a physiotherapist, what matters most is that they receive excellent, evidence-informed care. I will always value my osteopathic background, and I look forward to continuing to contribute to musculoskeletal healthcare through physiotherapy, education and innovation."
